This is one of the reasons we came to Paris and are staying all month. It gives us lots of time to head out of town and see the lesser known sights. Today was Chateau Chantilly. Only about 25 minutes North by fast train, but it is a whole different world. Originally built in 1560, give are take a few, this has been one of the French aristocracy's great homes since the 16th Century. So it is old. The French tore it down during the revolution, but the aristocratic families rebuilt after everyone calmed down. With Versailles being a 10, Paula gives this Chateau a 6.5 - 7.0. The real joy of this place, and there is plenty of that, is that hardly anyone was there. It was Paula and Duane and a couple from Dublin for the longest time before 6 other people showed up. It really livened up then with 10 people walking aorund this gigantic chateau. Having this wonderful place almost to ourselves almost brought it up to a solid 8! . . . Bottom line. . . . . We enjoyed it.
We didn't take a lot of pictures so if you want a lot of pictures google "Chateau Chantilly" images.
The best part of the day was eating on the on grounds restaurant. Paula had the Caesar Salad and Duane got to eat her coddled egg, "Yum! . . . Duane had what was perhaps the best Steak Tartare in the whole world.. . . Paula has trouble sitting at the table with a man eating raw meat, but she is a gamer and by drinking the house wine, survived quite nicely. . . With that said. . . Here's the Tartare!
Gorgeous!
