Waiters all over Europe, especially France and Italy, are primarily men, not college girls or aspiring young actresses. In this part of the world being a waiter is a classic career, not something you do while you wait for something better to come along. They are efficient, professional, polite and attentive (even though you can't tell). There are stories about waiters in Paris being rude. This is not true! They aren't all chirpy and flirty, but they get the job done and we have found them to be helpful, friendly and accommodating. Anyone who tells you different is the rude one. We have found this to be true even in the heavy touristy areas, and in the outlying areas, they are downright gregarious!
Today was an unnaturally warm day for Paris. The French, as we've mentioned before, apparently dress for the calendar, not the actual weather. Paula and Duane are sweating to the oldies in T-Shirts while the French are wrapping up with sweaters and scarves. They seem happy enough. I guess we'll have to just leave them alone.
