If there was ever a doubt about the French being as nice as everyone else (and much nicer than most) that was put to rest today. Paula and Duane had looked at the map and took off for the Musee des Arts et Metiers only to arrive and find it missing. Actually it was there all the time, just not where Duane thought it was going to be. He scrambled about in circles searching for this magnificent museum, but to no avail. Suddenly a perfectly dressed French women (They are all perfectly dressed) of indeterminate years approached and wondered if she could assist us in our mad search. We said, "Bonjour, Parlez-vous Anglais?". . . She said, "Non.". . . We were in trouble. But she persisted and convinced us with hand signals and grand gestures that she was indeed there to help and not to scam us. We pointed to our faulty map and pointed out the name of the Musee, "Arts et Metiers" . . . She indicated she didn't know. Now what?. . . She persisted and proceeded to stop everyone in the street and ask where this museum was. No Success! No one else knew either. Finally we convinced her that we were grateful for her help, but we'd make it on our own. We said merci beaucoup and continued on our way. Within a few short minutes, with us still bouncing about aimlessly, she came running up gesturing wildly to the left. "Monsieur/Madame Attention! A Gauche!" . . . We turned left and sure enough, there it was. It had been there all along. It was hiding on the left (la gauche) and Duane was leaning right. He always does that!
As we've said before, "Anyone who says the French are not nice is saying more about themselves than they are saying about the French!"
